Who first got you interested in motorcycling?   TV show “Then Came Bronson”

What is the longest “iron Butt” ride you have been on?  In July 1979, I rode from Seattle to Dallas while I was on leave from the Air Force. It took me 3 days. I arrived in the early morning hours, broke up with my girlfriend, left and rode back! I slept every night of the trip on the side of the road or in rest areas, I couldn’t afford a motel.

Have you ever done a burn out? Yes, every year at the Sturgis Rally from 1990 to 1997.

True Story!  I still have the tail light and rear fender section from my 1980 Fat BobTM Superglide®. I bought the bike in 1980 while I was stationed at McChord AFB in Tacoma, WA. It was my first new Harley. I wanted a 1981 FLHS so I sold the SuperGlide® to an Army guy stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. He paid me and asked if I had a hack saw he could borrow. I loaned him one and watched as he sawed the rear fender off between the tail light and license plate mount. He cut the tail light wires, handed the saw and fender section to me and rode off! I have the fender/taillight section mounted on a plaque in my office.

What is your best memory of riding?  The best is anytime I get to ride! It always relaxes me and makes me feel alive.  The worst? The worst is 17 degrees for 20 miles, hugging the tank, trying to get to work in Perry, GA.

Have you ever done a burn out? Me? Never! (joking) Several times!

What will your next bike be?  My next will be a FLTR. The best bike H-D® has ever made!

What was your first bike?
A DynaTM Low Rider
Who first got you interested in motorcycling? I have family in Sioux Falls, SD. When I was little and we went to visit we passed a long line of motorcycles headed to Sturgis.  I had to know what was so great about riding that so many people would ride to one place. Hearing the rumble and seeing the wave of bikers awakened that little riding monster within.  Over the years there has been a string of influences from friends who rode to family who attended rallies to my mechanic husband.  Riding is in the blood.  It is an internal rhythm that just beats stronger the more you pursue the sport.

What is your best memory of riding?  Coming home from Riverbend Music festival last summer, we had listened to some incredible local music.  On the ride home the air was warm and a fine misting rain started up that soon turned into big fat round soft drops of rain.  The air smelled so fresh, like fresh cut grass and earth. It was like the rain had washed everything clean.  We got home just before the weather turned more serious but in that 20 mile ride every sensation was so perfect and so sharp. We were truly part of nature.  This is why I ride.
The worst? Coming home from Gatlinburg in 2001.  We had gone to a wedding and stayed after to enjoy the sights.  We hadn’t planned to stay after dark so we had no gear with us for the cold.  The sun went down and the temperature dropped.  My hands were so cold that I rode home to Atlanta alternating with one hand on my bars and one hand on the motor trying to keep circulation going.  It was so miserable that all I remember from the ride is how cold my fingers were! I would have sworn that I could have broken my fingertips off!

What was the longest “iron butt” ride you have been on? About 3 months after I learned to ride I took a trip from Atlanta to New Orleans.

Have you ever done a burn out? No, I like my clutch and tires too much!

Best quote I’ve read recently:  “A good ride is a good ride but a bad ride is a great story!”
